The Somali National Army (SNA), in coordination with Ugandan forces from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), has successfully liberated the villages of Shaamgare and Raqayle in the Awdhiigle district of the Lower Shabelle region.

The operation, part of the ongoing “Silent Storm” military campaign, targeted extremist groups that had been using the area as a strategic hideout.

It marks the third phase of the campaign, began in the early hours of the morning with a brief but intense battle.

Details About the Somali National Army and AU Forces Latest Operation

Somali and ATMIS forces demonstrated advanced tactical expertise, engaging militants entrenched in fortified positions and caves.

The rapid execution of the operation minimized collateral damage while inflicting significant losses on the extremist groups.

Military reports indicate that a large number of militants were either killed or wounded during the operation.

Remaining fighters were forced to flee, leaving the villages free from extremist control.
The success of this mission reflects the growing capabilities of the Somali National Army and the effectiveness of coordinated joint operations with ATMIS forces.

    Critical Milestone

Officials describe the liberation of Shaamgare and Raqayle as a critical milestone in the broader effort to restore security and state authority across Somalia.

The “Silent Storm” offensive aims to dismantle extremist networks, secure key regions, and create conditions for communities to return to normal life without fear of militant activity.

Local authorities and security analysts emphasize that clearing these villages strengthens government control over the Lower Shabelle region.

This enhanced security is expected to facilitate stability, economic recovery, and infrastructure development, allowing residents to rebuild their communities and resume daily life safely.

    Lasting Peace in Somalia

The operation also sends a strong message to extremist groups across Somalia: the federal government, supported by international partners, remains committed to eliminating insurgent threats and maintaining law and order.

Analysts note that continued military pressure, coupled with community engagement and development programs, is vital to achieving lasting peace in Somalia.

The successful liberation of Shaamgare and Raqayle underscores the importance of joint military efforts and strategic planning in combating terrorism, reinforcing Somalia’s commitment to national security and regional stability.
