Old Somali songs are the most important thing we have to remember our history because in our culture we use the rhythm and the voice to tell the stories of our grandfathers in 2026. When you sit with the elders in the evening you can hear the Somali songs like the “Dhaanto” or the “Buraanbur” which make every person feel proud of their roots and their land.

This Somali songs tradition is not just about making a loud noise but it is about the poetry and the wise words that have been passed down for hundreds of years without ever being written in a book. If we lose the old Somali songs then we lose the map of our soul which is a very scary thought for the young people growing up in the big cities today. Many youth are now trying to learn the Somali songs so they can stay connected to the village and the nomad life that their parents left behind many years ago.

It is a very beautiful sight to see a wedding where the old Somali songs bring everyone together to dance and laugh under the stars just like our ancestors did in the past. Without these Somali songs our festivals would be very quiet and we would forget the simple joy of being a Somali person in a world that is moving too fast for everyone.

The real power of the old Somali songs in our daily life

One of the biggest reasons why the Somali songs are so special is that they are used for everything from milking the camels to celebrating a new baby in the family. This part of the old Somali songs magic is that the music changes depending on the work you are doing so it helps you stay strong and happy throughout the long day. When you look at the Somali songs you can see that the women are the masters of the “Buraanbur” which is a fast and exciting style that they use to praise their heroes and their children.

Another great thing about the Somali songs is that they use traditional instruments like the “Dool” drum and the “Oud” which give a sound that you cannot find in any other part of the world. Because of the old songs our history stays alive in the ears of the children who hear the tales of the great warriors and the wise poets while they are playing in the sand.

Why we must protect the old Somali songs for the future

Many experts who study our culture are saying that the old songs are under pressure because the modern pop music from other countries is taking over the radio and the internet. This old songs challenge is being met by local singers who are mixing the ancient lyrics with new beats so that the teenagers will want to listen to their own heritage again. If we can keep the old songs alive then we are building a wall that protects our identity from being washed away by the global trends of 2026.

We should all support the musicians who spend their time recording the old songs in the studios so that the digital files are safe for the next hundred years of our nation. The old songs are a reminder that we are a people of words and music and we should never be ashamed of the sounds that gave us our start in the desert. The journey of our country is long and the old songs are the light that guides us through the dark nights of our history as we move forward together.

Final thoughts on a heritage that never stops singing

We have to realize that our music is the mirror of our life and if we stop singing the old Somali songs then we are losing the reflection of who we really are. The old Somali songs are a gift that was given to us for free by our ancestors and it is our duty to make sure we pass it on to the next generation with great care. Let us be proud of our “Heello” and our “Saar” and every other style that makes our culture so rich and so unique among all the nations of the earth.
