Somalia education crisis is a huge problem right now because the environment where students try to learn is full of trouble. When we talk about the environment we mean both the physical buildings and the political situation around the schools. In places like Galmudug and Hirshabelle and the South West state the federal government is trying to force certain people into power who are not liked by the local citizens. This makes the local areas very unstable because people feel like their voices are not being heard in the elections. When there is political fighting in the streets or at the government level the schools often have to close down or teachers cannot get to work.

Somalia education crisis and the 2026 deadline

One of the biggest things causing stress in the country is the date of May 15 2026. This is when the term for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is supposed to end officially. Many people are worried that there will be an illegal extension of power which would cause even more protests and violence in the city of Mogadishu. education crisis gets worse every time there is a political lockdown because students are afraid to leave their homes. If the leaders do not follow the constitution and step down when they are supposed to the whole country might face a huge wave of insecurity that will stop children from going to classes for a long time.

Another sad part of the Somalia education crisis is how the military is being used lately. There are special soldiers who were trained by other countries to fight against the group Al-Shabaab but now they are being used for local politics. The President is using these troops to scare his political enemies instead of making the country safe for families. When the army is used this way it creates a feeling of fear everywhere. Parents do not want to send their kids to school if they see soldiers on the street corner who are there for political reasons rather than protection.

    Land theft and broken schools

The government is also being accused of taking land from regular people in Mogadishu and selling it off for money. This corruption is a big part of the Somalia education crisis because money that should go to fixing old schools or building new ones is being stolen. Many schools in the provinces do not have desks or even roofs because the funds are disappearing into the pockets of politicians. It is hard for a child to learn anything when the building is falling apart and the government is busy taking land from their parents.

Insecurity is still a massive issue in almost every province and this adds to the Somalia education crisis daily. There are many reports of fighting and lawlessness that make it impossible to have a normal life. If the government cannot even provide basic safety then they definitely cannot provide a quality education. The Somalia education crisis is really a result of bad leadership and people focusing on power rather than the needs of the youth.

People are asking if the Somalia education crisis will ever end if the same problems keep happening. Without fair elections and without following the law the schools will never be a priority for the people in charge. We need to see a change where the government stops fighting its rivals and starts focusing on the kids. The Somalia education crisis will only get worse if the constitutional deadline in May is ignored. Everyone is hoping for a peaceful future but right now the environment for learning is just too dangerous and broken for most students to succeed. Even the international community is worried that the Somalia education crisis might lead to a lost generation of children who never got the chance to sit in a safe classroom because of the greed of those at the top.
