Somalia political tension is reaching a very dangerous point right now because the constitutional term of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is ending on May 15 2026. People are out on the streets of Mogadishu because any extension of this term without agreement from all parties is illegal under the constitution. The opposition is smart this time because they are spreading crowds across many different areas instead of just one place. Even the former President Farmaajo warned the government not to block these peaceful protests or put restrictions on the citizens who want to speak out.

The details of the Somalia political tension

Everyone on Somali social media is talking about how the government might close major roads and stop people from moving near official buildings. Activists are begging the security forces not to use violence or make political arrests against those who are protesting. This Somalia political tension gets worse because the election process is not transparent at all. The government is forcing unwanted candidates into regional states like Galmudug Hirshabelle and the South West State through political appointments instead of fair voting.

On top of that there are heavy accusations that the president is using international aid money that was meant for fighting terrorism to fight his own political rivals instead. This creates a massive problem because the resources are not going where they need to go. The Somalia political tension is deeply tied to how money and power are being handled in the capital city.

Corruption worsens the Somalia political tension

Another huge reason for the anger is the clear administrative corruption happening inside the palace. People are seeing relatives and friends getting high positions just because they are loyal to the party. For example the president appointed his daughter Jihan as a presidential advisor for international affairs and her husband Aden Roble as the director of the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank. Experienced security and military leaders are being fired and replaced by people from the president’s own clan to secure his stay in power. This nepotism is feeding the Somalia political tension and making people lose trust in the state.

Military problems and the Somalia political tension

The military situation is also very scary because the international forces trained special troops to fight Al-Shabaab but now the government is using them to target political opponents. Government officials are also stealing national resources by taking land from citizens in Mogadishu and selling it for profit. In the South West State security has completely broken down because the federal government is ignoring the local regional forces.

The government is also trying to create trouble in Puntland and Jubaland which is very dangerous because it allows terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab and ISIS to grow their influence and take more territory. This mismanagement is driving the Somalia political tension to a boiling point where the whole country could slide backward into chaos.

People are demanding a fair dialogue before things get out of hand. If the government keeps using international funds to buy the loyalty of clans and politicians the system will break. The Somalia political tension cannot be solved by force or by hiding behind clan walls. The youth and the opposition want real change and they want their voices to be respected.

In conclusion the next few weeks will decide the future of the nation. The Somalia political tension requires honest talk and an agreement on how to hold elections properly. If the current leadership tries to extend its power illegally the protests will likely grow bigger and more widespread. It is time for the politicians to put the country first before the shadow of instability ruins all the progress made over the years.
