    The airspace dispute with Somali government, the Somaliland government has convened a meeting of international community representatives in Hargeisa, conveying its position against the restrictive immigration policy imposed by Somalia, and the measures it is taking.

    The airspace dispute with Somali government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdirahman Dahir Aden, who spoke to the media after the meeting with other ministers, said that the measures taken by the Somali government in the airspace are aimed at destroying Somaliland.

    “We have told the international community the main reasons why the government in Mogadishu is taking these measures; that Somaliland’s democracy and peace are their destruction for them,” the Minister said.

    The airspace dispute with Somali government, he said that they have told the international community that they will take every possible step to prevent the Somaliland immigration system from being implemented, adding that they will pass on the messages sent by the international representatives to their governments.

    The Minister of the Presidency, Khadar Hussein Abdi, said that there is a direct war between Somaliland and Somalia, and that unity and solidarity are needed.  He said that Somaliland was conquered with blood and gunfire, and they are ready today if necessary. “Somalilandians are not people who give up E-visa for what they want,” he said.

    The airspace dispute with Somali government, Minister of Aviation and Airports Development, Fu’aad Ahmed Nuux, said that 90 aircraft that use Somaliland airspace daily have sent a message to each of them, and 40% have agreed to follow Somaliland’s laws, while those who did not agree were told to deviate from Somaliland’s airspace, and most of them have deviated.

    “We have taken two steps, three more steps are ready for us, and we will take each one in turn… The issue of airspace, we as a nation see as a sensitive issue that requires us to unite as a nation,” said Minister Fu’aad.

     In particular, he addressed those who criticize the government’s airspace management, saying that the current problem is a legacy of the Kulmiye government and the Somaliland-Somalia talks, in which the then Somali government was handed over to manage the airspace.

    Somaliland recently issued new orders aimed at responding to the recent travel restrictions imposed by Somalia. Among the orders is that no aircraft without Somaliland’s permission can fly through its airspace.

    The Somali government has previously said that the new airspace plan aims to protect its security and monitor people entering and leaving, as it does not recognize the independence of Somaliland.
