Somalia current leadership has pushed the political crisis to a boiling point, and the actions of the federal administration are driving the nation into deep instability. The legal term of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially ended on May 15 2026 meaning any extension of his time in office is completely illegal and goes against the constitution because there is no agreement among the different political groups.
Instead of working toward fair elections the federal government is forcing unwanted candidates into regional states like Galmudug Hirshabelle and the South West State showing everyone that the election system is not transparent and is just run by political appointments. Furthermore the president is using international aid that was meant to fight terrorism to instead target and eliminate his political rivals.

How Somalia current leadership abuses power and resources
The federal government is also misusing the military forces. Somalia’s current leadership has politicized international-trained troops who are supposed to fight Al-Shabaab using them to attack political opponents instead of protecting the public. On top of that corruption is widespread with the government stealing national resources by taking land from citizens in Mogadishu and selling it off. In the South West State security has completely broken down because the federal government chose to ignore and marginalize the local security forces. At the same time the administration is trying to start conflicts in Puntland and Jubaland to destroy their stability which allows terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab and ISIS to grow stronger and take over more areas.

There is also massive corruption inside the administration. Somalia current leadership has filled important government jobs with relatives friends and party loyalists. For example the president appointed his daughter Jihan as the presidential advisor for international affairs and his son-in-law Adam Roble was made the director of the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank.
Experienced security and military leaders have been fired and replaced by people from the president’s own clan and party just to help him stay in power while international money meant to support the country is spent on buying the loyalty of clans and politicians.
The dangerous consequences of Somalia current leadership
The situation became much worse today when the federal government committed a major crime by launching an armed attack on political opponents right inside Mogadishu. Somalia’s current leadership is fully responsible for causing a dangerous situation where families are now fleeing their homes because they fear the fighting will spread across the capital city. This is not just a regular security problem it is a direct leadership crisis caused by an expired president whose decisions are pushing the country into a very dark place.
What is happening in Mogadishu right now is the direct result of the choices made by the president and his administration. Because they mismanaged the crisis the capital is now facing its worst security escalation in a long time. Somalia’s current leadership decided to use military force against the political opposition instead of having a real political dialogue which started these battles inside the city and put internal stability at great risk.

The scenes of regular families running away from the fighting zones in Mogadishu show how dangerous it is to keep this ruling authority in power. Somalia current leadership chose to use the military path instead of finding political solutions, and this bad choice is actively pushing the whole country toward a devastating civil war. If international partners do not act fast, the progress made over the last few years will be completely lost because Somalia current leadership values staying in power over the lives of ordinary citizens.
By making selfish decisions, Somalia current leadership continues to ignore the widespread calls for peace and a return to constitutional law. The violent clashes breaking out in the streets are clear evidence that Somalia current leadership cares more about political survival than the safety of the Somali people.
